The Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Regulations 2025 (the 2025 Regulations) commence on 30 June 2025. They replace the Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Regulations 2022 (the 2022 Regulations), which expire on the same date.
The 2025 Regulations, like the 2022 Regulations, support the Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Act 2012 (the Act). These laws apply at Tasmanian mines in conjunction with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, and address mining specific hazards, risks, processes and control measures.
The differences between the 2025 and 2022 regulations are minor and editorial in nature. They largely consist of changes to the commencement and expiry dates, corrections, and removal of gendered language.
It is expected that the 2025 Regulations will be replaced when a new, substantially improved set of mines safety regulations is ready for implementation. To give effect to this intent, regulation 45 of the 2025 Regulations rescinds the regulations on 30 June 2027.
Regulations to replace the 2025 Regulations will be subject to substantial consultation with mining industry participants, followed by an information and education program, before coming into effect.
