In Tasmania, the transport of dangerous goods is regulated through:
- the Dangerous Goods (Road and Rail Transport) Act 2010
- the Dangerous Goods (Road and Rail Transport) Regulations 2010.
These laws refer to the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG Code), which sets out the operational and technical requirements in the management of dangerous goods transportation.
The ADG Code is updated every two years, with a one year transition period for each edition.
Edition 7.6 of the ADG Code has legal effect from 1 July 2018 and compliance with edition 7.6 is mandatory in Tasmania from 1 July 2019.
This edition includes changes specific to the Australian environment.
The ADG Code should be read in conjunction with Tasmanian laws listed above, which have important information on licence requirements.
