When something isn’t quite right: a WORK framework for psychological capacity decision making

Presented by Maria Model

Wednesday 21 October 2026 1:30pm -2:30pm

When something doesn’t seem quite right at work—attendance changes, concentration declines, behaviour shifts or conflict increases—it can be difficult to determine whether the issue is one of performance, personal circumstances or psychological capacity.

This practical workshop introduces the WORK decision framework, designed to help employers move from early concern to structured, practical action when psychological capacity may be affecting work. Participants will explore how to recognise relevant workplace indicators, distinguish between performance and capacity concerns, identify what information is needed, and determine appropriate next steps.

Through practical examples, the session will demonstrate how the framework can support better conversations, clearer decision-making and proportionate responses—balancing employee support with the organisation’s responsibility to maintain safe and sustainable work participation.
