Maureen Hassall is Professor and Director of the Minerals Industry Safety and Health Centre at The University of Queensland. She is passionate about helping industry achieve zero fatalities and create rewarding work for all. Maureen develops and delivers innovative and impactful industry-focused research, training and consultancy projects that leverage leading thinking in human-centred design, risk management and safety engineering. Her academic work is motivated by 18 years working in a range of high hazard industries across a number of different countries. She holds Bachelors degrees in engineering and psychology, a Masters in business administration and a PhD in Cognitive Systems Engineering and is a registered professional and chartered engineer.
Can the ICMM Critical Control Approach be applied to Psychosocial Risk?
The ICCM critical control approach has recently been updated. Many are applying the approach to improve the management of safety related fatality and multiple fatality events. Some are also applying it to health related events – specifically those associated with airborne contaminants and hazardous chemicals. There has been limited work done to apply it to work-related psychosocial risks. Deciphering true critical controls for psychosocial risk has been a challenge for many. This talk discusses research done to using the ICMM critical control approach that deciphering the risk controls needed to effectively manage psychosocial risks in the workplace.
